Yoga and Children
The world is a fast paced, get-it-done-now environment for adults as well as children. The fast pace you live trickles down to your children. There is homework, school programs, after school activities, religious activities and so much more. Now more than ever our children need time and a method to slow down and turn off the outside mania! We want our children to get outside and be engaged in physical activities. However, a lot of these activities are intense and physically taxing. Adults find ways to unwind so why not provide your child a way to unwind too.
There are at least eight significant benefits for children to develop a yoga practice:
- Develop body awareness.
- Learn how to use their bodies in a healthy ways.
- Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement.
- Build concentration.
- Increase their confidence and positive self-image.
- Feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group.
- Learn to take time to be still.
The physical benefits include improved flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. Yoga helps with their concentration and can develop a sense of calmness. The non-competitive nature of yoga cannot be over-emphasized. Another benefit of yoga is improving their balance and posture that is essential in their other physical activities.
If taking your child to a yoga studio adds more stress in your lives, there are a number of yoga classes on the internet that you can view on your electronic tablet. We know children love everything electronic. Put a Pad Go Round on your tablet, attach a tripod and put it on the floor in front of their mat. In addition you will find the Pad Go Round so useful for other activities!
